What Senuri means

Senuri

seh-NOOR-ee

sen
—  the meridians
nuri
—  light

Where energy flows, light follows.

For thousands of years, East Asian medicine has understood the body as a landscape of pathways — mapped, studied, and refined across generations of practitioners. Qi, the body's vital force, moves through them. Where it flows freely, the body thrives. Where it stagnates or depletes, symptoms emerge.

When qi moves freely through its meridians, its cycles, and its systems, something shifts. Symptoms that felt stuck begin to change. Patterns that seemed permanent begin to resolve. And the body begins to find its way back to harmony.

Light is both metaphor and reality. It is what patients describe when the body is no longer working against itself — lightness, clarity, vitality. The sense of being fully inhabited in your own skin.

At Senuri, this is not the exception. It is the intention.

Dr. Puja Patel, founder of Senuri
The founder

Senuri was founded by Dr. Puja Patel,DAc, L.Ac, PA-C.

Puja spent a decade working as a Physician Assistant, primarily in transplant medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, with earlier experience as an infectious disease PA. That work gave her a lasting respect for acute medicine: its care, its compassion, its complexity. It also gave her a deep understanding of how the body’s systems connect. During that time, while continuing to practice clinically, she completed a Master of Science and Doctorate in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health and Science, with comprehensive training in the diagnostic frameworks and classical theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is nationally board certified through the NCCAOM.

It was her own experience with acupuncture, and the profound shifts she witnessed in her own health, that brought Senuri to life.

She has never forgotten what it felt like to be on the other side of the table.

Why ritual

Rituals have existed in every culture, across all of time, because the body remembers them. Repetition is how we steady ourselves, how we stay connected to something deeper than the day in front of us.

Somewhere along the way, caring for yourself became one more thing to check off the list. A ritual is the opposite. Not a task, but a practice that deeply enriches you. Something you return to, again and again, because of how it makes you feel. A moment carved out of a full life, to slow down and tend to yourself.

That's what we mean by where wellness becomes ritual. Not another thing to manage, but something your body learns to expect, and to trust.

The Senuri space in Chelsea
The practice & space

Our space was designed with intention.

Shaped by a love of Asia and the warmth of South Asian tradition: terracotta and clay, rose pink, and deep purple, textures and details drawn from places close to the heart. Every detail was considered, so that the moment you step inside, the city falls away, and something settles.

We'd be honored to care for you.
